Galvanised Pipes

Galvanizing is a process where a coating of zinc is applied to steel or iron to protect and preserve them from rusting.
Galvanized piping was placed in homes before 1960. When it was discovered that galvanized pipe was another substitute to lead pipe for water supplies.

Characteristics/Features Galvanised Pipes

  • When Galvanized pipes were used for the first time they were preferred as they were less costly than copper pipes.

  • Galvanized pipes are often chosen for larger construction purposes and for the outdoor plumbing of the project.

  • Galvanized pipes are less expensive than copper pipes and are more long-lasting than plastic pipes.

  • Galvanized pipes have a broad diameter to allow more water compared to copper pipes.

  • Galvanized steel pipes are low cost as compared to other steel because it doesn't require another layer of coating or painting.

  • Galvanized steel has long-lasting properties.

  • Galvanized steel pipes have a better effect they are corrosion-free and have anti-wear properties than usual steel pipes as zinc has a greater hardness effect than steel.

  • Galvanized pipes have a good level of abrasion resistance and can stand out the harsh weather conditions such as sunlight, wind, and rain.

  • Galvanized steel pipes are easy to damage.

  • Galvanized pipes are easy to inspect and examine.

Applications of Galvanised Pipes

  • Wind & solar industries – Galvanized steel pipes are used in solar projects and they require continuous workflow. If once installed they need proper repairs/maintenance if there is disturbance occurs then there will be a loss in the revenue. That is why hot-dipped galvanized steels are popular in solar projects because of their corrosion-free properties. It is also popular because of ‘environmental friendliness '. They do not produce emissions and make sure that they last for decades without much maintenance.

  • Agriculture sector - Galvanized steel is mostly applied in the agriculture sector because of the equipment which is susceptible to not being easily corroded, creating demand because of hardness requires in the equipment.
Hot-dip galvanized steel provides corrosion protection which can last for decades, even when exposed to the environment of agriculture.

  • Automobile industry – Galvanized steel is only used for luxury models up until the 1980s, the application of zinc-coated bodies for automobiles is now the norm in auto manufacturing.

  • Construction industries – Whether for residential or commercial purposes, the constancy of galvanized steel has become popular for the construction industry because   its aesthetics the ‘shine’ that galvanized steel provides give it a contemporary feel and is also popular in modern architecture designs. Also, it isn’t just used for larger structural chunks but things like fencing, gutter rails, tubing, poles, etc.

  • Telecommunication industries – Phone lines are not an easy task to change the wires. in fact, they are tall and often it is difficult to reach there.

  • Playground pieces of equipment: Childrens’ play equipment like bicycle racks, chains, jungle gyms, and swings are made up of galvanized steel because it is rust-resistant. Hot-galvanized steel can be used on phone wiring, film border, and equipment boxes which reduces the risk of damage and need for maintenance .
